Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

The Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485) is designed for international students who have recently graduated from an Australian educational institution. This visa allows you to live, study, and work in Australia temporarily after completing your studies. Importantly, the 485 Visa is not point-tested and does not require employer sponsorship.

Streams of the Temporary Graduate Visa (Subclass 485)

There are two streams available under this visa:

Graduate Work Stream

Post-Study Work Stream

If you are applying as the primary applicant, you and anyone included in your application must be physically present in Australia both when the visa application is submitted and when it is decided.

Basic Eligibility Requirements for Subclass 485 Visa:

To qualify for this visa, you must:

Be under 50 years of age.

Hold an eligible visa.

Have a recent qualification in a CRICOS-registered course.

Graduate Work Stream

Visa Duration:

This stream grants a visa valid for 18 months from the date of approval.

Eligibility:

Available to graduates whose skills and qualifications are related to an occupation listed on the Skilled Occupation List (SOL).

Job Ready Program:

Graduates who have completed trade qualifications in Australia and are working in their nominated occupation can proceed with the TRA Job Ready Program to obtain a full skills assessment within the 18-month period.

Skills Assessment:

Graduates can also complete a Professional Year or gain relevant work experience to apply for a skills assessment with the appropriate authority.

Post-Study Work Stream

Eligibility:

This stream is designed for international students who have graduated with a higher education degree from an Australian education provider, regardless of their field of study.

Visa Duration:

The visa can be granted for up to four years, depending on the applicant’s qualifications.
