Partner Visa (Spouse Visa)
In Australia, what is commonly referred to as a spouse visa is known as the Partner Visa. This visa allows individuals to bring their spouse or partner to Australia if they are in a committed relationship with an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or eligible New Zealand citizen.
If you’re married or in a de facto relationship, you can apply for a Partner Visa to reunite with your partner and build a life together in Australia.
Duration of the Partner Visa:
The Partner Visa comes in different categories with varying terms, and it doesn’t have a fixed duration. Applicants who are granted a provisional partner visa can expect a re-assessment of their application after living in Australia with their partner for two years. At the end of this 24-month period, the immigration authorities will review whether the relationship remains genuine and if the applicant qualifies for a permanent partner visa.
If the relationship is deemed genuine, the applicant may be eligible to obtain a permanent visa. However, if the relationship ends (through a breakup or divorce), there is a risk of deportation, and the provisional visa may not be renewed.
It’s important to note that once an applicant is granted a Permanent Partner Visa, they are no longer required to remain in a relationship with their sponsor.
