This visa lets you come to Australia to marry your prospective spouse and then apply for a Partner visa.

OVERVIEW

With this visa, you can

  • stay in Australia for between 9 and 15 months from date of grant of visa
  • work in Australia
  • study in Australia at your own expense
  • travel to and from Australia as many times as you want

How long you can stay

Between 9 and 15 months from date of grant of visa

This is a temporary visa. You can stay in Australia for the period specified on the visa grant letter. This is between 9 and 15 months from the visa grant date.

Include family

You can:

  • include members of the family unit in your application when you apply
  • add family members to your application after you apply but before we decide on your visa

Family members who apply for the visa must meet Australia’s health and character requirements.

Newborn children

ELIGIBILITY

Have a sponsor

You and anyone who applies for the visa with you must be sponsored by your prospective spouse. 

We must approve the sponsorship.

 

Be the right age

You must be 18 years old or older when you apply for the visa.

 

Meet our health requirement

You and any family members who apply for the visa with you must meet our health requirement.

Family members who are not coming to Australia might also have to meet our health requirement. 

 

Meet our character requirement

You and any family members (including those who don’t apply for the visa with you) must meet our character requirement.

DOCUMENTATION

You must

  • be 18 years old or older
  • be sponsored
  • intend to marry your prospective spouse before the visa period ends
  • be outside Australia when you apply

Note: You may be eligible for a refund of your Visa Application Charge if:

  • your Prospective marriage visa ceased while you were outside Australia, and
  • you were not able to enter Australia because of COVID-19 travel restrictions, or
  • we extended your visa because of the regulations made on 10 December 2020 and you wish to cancel that visa

Australian visas are digital. We do not put a visa label in your passport. Instead, we link your digital visa record to your passport.

Your visa number is contained in your visa grant letter.
